Rufino Blanco Fombona

Rufino Blanco Fombona nació en Caracas en junio de 1874. Se convirtió en un importante escritor, editor y político venezolano: fue nominado seis veces al Premio Nobel de Literatura, entre sus obras destacan panfletos políticos, ficción, poesía, obras de teatro y libros sobre la historia de Venezuela y tres autobiografías. Su actitud crítica frente a los gobiernos de Castro y Gómez lo obligó a vivir en el exilio. En 1944 muere de un infarto y es enterrado en el Panteón Nacional de Venezuela.

Rufino Blanco Fombona was born in Caracas in June 1874. He became an important Venezuelan writer, editor and politician: he was nominated six times for the Nobel Prize in Literature, among his works stand out political pamphlets, fiction, poetry, plays, books on the history of Venezuela and three autobiographies. His critical attitude towards the governments of Castro and Gómez forced him to live in exile. In 1944 he died of a heart attack and is buried in the National Pantheon of Venezuela.
